Mr. Yap Kok Wei is a highly experienced investment professional, renowned for his expertise in managing equity funds. With his esteemed educational background, Mr. Yap holds a Master of Economics degree from the University of Malaya and a Bachelor of Economics degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia. His professional qualifications include being a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder and holding SFC License Type 1 (Dealing in Securities), Type 4 (Advising on Securities), and Type 9 (Asset Management) licenses. He has also obtained the 中国证券业证书 (General Securities Business) certification. Additionally, Mr. Yap has been awarded a Certificate in ESG Investing by the CFA Society U.K. With a remarkable career spanning over twenty years in the investment industry, he has held key positions in renowned financial institutions across Asia, solidifying his reputation as a seasoned professional.
Mr. Yap serves as one of the directors of Octowill Trustees Berhad. With his extensive experience in finance and investment, Mr. Yap brings valuable insights and guidance to Octowill Trustees Berhad, contributing to the company’s success in the trustee industry.
Mr. Yap also serves as the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Proven Venture Capital PLT, Mr. Yap assumes a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s investment strategies. Since September 2022, he has been responsible for overseeing portfolio management, establishing investment strategies, and determining asset allocation strategies for Proven Venture Capital PLT.
Previously, Mr. Yap served as a Portfolio Manager (Asia Pacific) at Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management in Hong Kong from July 2017 to August 2022. In this role, he effectively managed equity portfolios in the Asia Pacific region, demonstrating his proficiency in country allocation and conducting meticulous macro and equity research. Mr. Yap also actively engaged in marketing and fund raising efforts, further strengthening his expertise in these areas.
Prior to his tenure at Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management, Mr. Yap held the position of Investment Analyst at the same organization from June 2012 to June 2017. During this period, he played a crucial role in conducting macro and equity research, significantly contributing to the organization’s marketing and fund raising endeavors.
Mr. Yap’s international experience extends to his time as a Senior Analyst (ASEAN) at Huatai-Pinebridge Fund Management in Shanghai, where he focused on macro and equity research and actively participated in marketing and fund raising activities from July 2010 to May 2012. Additionally, he gained valuable insights and experience in macro and equity research and marketing and fund raising during his tenure as an Investment Manager at AIA Malaysia from March 2010 to May 2010.
